(Short) downtime announcement

Fixing strange character encoding --

There are still some non-English blogs which have problems in the way certain accented characters and alphabets are displayed. We have to shut the site down in order to fix it.

It should take about 2 hours of downtime, scheduled for:

Tuesday, April 27th from 11:30-13:30 GMT. Thanks for your patience.

IE text editor problems?

easy to fix --

Try this: (1) logout of mo'time and *close all mo'time windows* (2) delete your Temporary Internet Files [Tools menu -> General tab -> Internet Options] (3) quit the browser and start it up again. That should do it.

Problem displaying special characters

Ȏ ḉ ž ñ ḓ ´ ??? --
HieroglyphicsHieroglyphics and our web server: Ever since the Egyptians began to use writing to communicate, it has been necessary to translate written characters from one language system to another.
Update: As far as blog texts are concerned, we have resolved 99% of the problems in displaying accented characters and special punctuation marks. In the comments and blog descriptions and titles there are still some problems. These will also be resolved; we are conducting the final tests and very soon, we hope, this will all be behind us.

Introducing mo'time v.2.0

what's inside? --

mo'time v.2.0!Added features, built for future growth: Since change can also be a little confusing, we've tried to design this upgrade in such a way as to not be too disorienting. The big idea is that it is now much easier to add new features and upgrade the system.

Apart from a few cosmetic changes (in continuous evolution), the main difference on the home page menu to the right is that the Delete blogs function has been moved to the control panel (where you post), and the digest link has been "mo'ized", it's now mo'Digest.

The control panel has been completely revamped to make room for some new features and to accommodate more advanced features which we plan to introduce in the near future. Having problems seeing the new editor? Click here. Above and beyond the interface changes, there are a few feature enhancements in this release:

• You can now put titles on each post* [ How? ] • Private blogs are enabled [Read more...] and • You now have more flexible group blog controls [Read more...]
*All titles posted from last night to this evening have been cleared for technical reasons.

As always, the help and template blogs are open for business for your questions. (I disabled comments on this post to make sure that the questions get directed onto the blogs where the most people can benefit from the answers.)

In any upgrade of this complexity, there are bound to be some hiccups and growing pains, so please bear with us as we try to smooth any rough edges. Let me know about any problems that you have! Thanks.

Known problem: Some accented characters do not display correctly on the new system. We are working to fix this ASAP.

Scheduled downtime: Sunday, April 18th

major system upgrade, TODAY!! --

We're very happy with the way that mo'time is growing and especially excited to see the way that you guys are connecting up with each other. As a result, we wanted to add more features to encourage people to meet other bloggers with similar interests and to collaborate easier on group blogs -- among many other enhancements.

In order to do this we must upgrade the platform to mo'time v.2.0, which will launch with some of the new features we have in mind -- and will allow us to more quickly add further improvements! This is a very complicated system, as you can imagine, and will require from 3-6 hours of downtime to install the new system, currently scheduled for:

Sunday, April 18th from 17:00-23:00 GMT, that's Noon-6:00 p.m. in NY, 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. on the Pacific coast of the States and Noon (Monday)-6:00 p.m. in Sri Lanka!

Of course this kind of work is a bit unpredictable, and it may take just a little longer. If you have any questions during the downtime, you can always email me or IM me on TipicIM (or from any Jabber-compatible instant messenger).
