Articles of interest about mo'time, the blogosphere, culture and society
I received the following email this evening:
Hello, I have no idea what your site is about but would just like to tell you 'you are a googlewhack'. Your site was the one and only result of the words searched in google: diametric+quiche
For those of you not familiar with the sport of googlewhacking, the rules are simple:
"Your goal: find that elusive query (two words - no quote marks) with a single, solitary result!"
Your combination of words must yield one, single, solitary, unique, individual result. Visit the Googlewhack home page to learn everything you have ever wanted to know about this. Here are a few other Googlewhacks that I found amusing: smarmier fripperies, custardy interpolation and bumblepuppy inhaler.
For those of you who have been wanting a spellchecker for your blog posts, I have found a couple of tools to help you out, Spellbound (multi-language) for Firefox and Mozilla, and ieSpell (English only) for Internet Explorer under Windows.
Firefox/Mozilla: First download Firefox (recommended) or Mozilla.
Then, using Firefox or Mozilla, go to the installation page and install Spellbound. Quit and restart your browser.
Go to the Mozilla dictionary page to choose your local language and follow the installation instructions.
Now all that remains is to place the Spellbound button in your browser’s toolbar. Read the instructions here, but if you want a quick start, read on: under the View menu, choose Toolbar->Customize. You may have to scroll the window to see the Spellbound icon. Click and drag the icon to the horizontal icon bar in your browser. You should now see the Spellbound button everytime you open your browser.
To use the spellchecker, when you put your cursor in the text area in which you have typed your post, and then click the Spellbound button, the spellchecker will load. It works just like the one you have in your word processor.
Internet Explorer/Windows: go to the ieSpell homepage to read about this extension. Download ieSpell and follow the instructions via the installation and usage links on the same page.
I hope this provides a decent solution for those of you have always wanted spellchecking on mo’time.
Macintosh users, Linux aficionados and lovers of Firefox and Mozilla,
on any operating system, now have a full-featured blog editor to format
their posts, just as IE users on Windows have had from the start.
(Sorry, you Safari habitués, you'll have to use Mozilla or Firefox to use the
Mo'time editor...) It may be a bit slow upon first loading, but after
that it should appear relatively quickly.
(The editor was not compatible with pop-up comments on Internet Explorer/Windows, so we had to take that part down for now.
)
Download Firefox (recommended) here. Download Mozilla here.
Have you heard the news? The one-and-only serenaluchang's blog, 'N' is for Neville, who died of ennui, is up for a "Best of Blog" award in the "Most Humorous Blog" category! Apart from being a very funny blog, she is the only Motimer in the contest. So vote for her -- or else! ;-)
The voting closes on January 14. Any person with an e-mail address can vote once every 24 hours in each category.
