How did I miss this?

Today is, um, Blogday!! The suggested method of celebrating is to introduce your readers to five blogs that you like that they may not be aware of. To get you in the mood, I'll introduce you to a new blog, Global Voices Online, linking to an article about Blogday. Over the years, I've introduced you guys to way more than five blogs, so I've got credit.

Scheduled maintenance

In order to update the platform in preparation for new features and to further improve (our pretty darn good) performance, Mo'time will go "off the air" for a few hours starting at 21:30 (9:30 p.m.) GMT, Tuesday, August 30, 2005. I hope that the downtime will be limited to 2-3 hours, but we never know exactly until we do the work and then test the results.

Your blogs should remain online, and some parts of the site will probably be working. But you just won't be able to post for a while. So, read a book, take a walk, talk to a friend! :)

Hoax / Spam email

This morning I found an email entitled, "Your password has been successfully updated" in my email box, that was made to appear as if it was mailed by Mo'time. It was not. And it contained a virus-carrying attachment. We never send you unrequested email unless there are very special circumstances and NEVER include attachments.

This was very well done, and even included a salutation with my real username. Here's what it said:

"Dear user howard, You have successfully updated the password of your Motime account. If you did not authorize this change or if you need assistance with your account, please contact Motime customer service at: info@motime.com. Thank you for using Motime! The Motime Support Team"

The attachment was named, "account-password.zip", accompanied by a footer in the email indicating that it had been scanned and was virus-free.

Repeat: Mo'time does not send you emails with attachments. Please let me know if you receive such emails, thanks, and do not open those attachments.
