Posting problems?

For those of you having posting problems (when you post, you don't see your post on the blog), try this until we fix the bug:  Click the "Publish on" radio button instead of the "Publish now" radio button right above the "Save" button. The time and date should read the actual time and date of your blog.  Now click Save and it should publish immediately.

Fixing some type style bugs on some templates

You may have notice a formating bug (on some templates) in the way your profile text looks and the way the username appears in your comment section. If you have not modified your template, you can simply navigate via the homepage, click on the "Blog" button in the top menu, then the Template link in the horizontal menu, then Browse in the right column and pick the template that you want from the selections. That should do it.

If you have modified your template and don't want to lose the changes, you can fix yourself with a little cut and pasting in the template itself. Be careful to not cut anything not indicated and to be meticulously accurate in following these few steps:

(1) From the homepage login and click on the "Blog" button in the top menu.
(2) Click on the Template link in the horizontal menu bar.
(3) In the Template text find the following code:
#contentright p {

Change it to:
.aboutme,#contentright p {

(4) Find this section of code:
<p style="text-align: center"><$BlogAboutMe$></p>

Change it to:
<div class="aboutme" style="text-align: center"><$BlogAboutMe$></div>

(5) And finally, find the text:
.comment-bottom {

Change it to:
comment-bottom td, .comment-bottom {

Let me know if you have any problems, if this does not work for you or if you have hopelessy botched the job!

RSS feeds fixed

For those of you who know or care about your blog's feeds (RSS and Atom), they are back! In order to insure that they will work correctly you need to follow these 2 steps and then wait for a few minutes until they regenerate. It is not immediate.

(1) Go to your Blogs -> Settings page. In the right column you will find the RSS feeds buttons. First click on the "No" radio button and Save Changes.

(2) Then turn them back on, click on the "Yes" button and Save Changes.

That's it. Waiting a few minutes, from 2 minutes to as much as 10 minutes, and they should be working normally again. Thanks for your patience about this.

Everybody should empty their cache! Everybody.

My dear people, in order to make sure that everything will work right on your blog(s), you should do these 2 things:

(1) Empty the cache of your browser. First close all Mo'time windows. Each operating system and browser combination works differently. If you are not sure how to do this, even after Googling "tutorial empty cache" including your browser name (Internet Explorer, Safari, Firefox, Camino or Opera for example) and operating system (windows xp or vista, Mac OSx, Linux, for example), just leave a comment here and I'll help you out.

(2) After doing that, write a new post on your blog, or leave a comment on your own blog, or modify the template in some way. This will refresh the database and your blog will be fresh and up-to-date.

Sorry for any confusion or inconvenience, but that's life in the fast lane for ya,

H

Spam control for comments

By default, to prevent spam comments, anonymous commenters will have to view, decipher and enter the text they see in a little graphic box before publishing their comments. This function is known as a Captcha, "Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart." HA!

You can choose to turn off this protection on your blog by navigation to this page of your dashboard:

Blogs -> Connections -> Access (this button is now in the right hand column, it used to be the third level tab on the "old" platform). Just click "No" in the "Show captcha in comment form" area, then "Save changes" at the bottom of the page.

If you then have trouble with spam comments, simply turn it back on.

Keep the bugs reports coming, folks

Thanks for the input so far, and please continue to let me know where you find the problems.

Some common issues you may encounter are: seeing an older version of your blog online... in this case, just try posting a new post or updating your template by adding or removing a space or something innocuous.

But you don't even see the post editor, you may respond! In those rare cases, you must empty the cache of your browser. On Windows hitting the F5 key a couple of times may do the trick. If you don't know how to empty your cache or "Temporary Internet Files" in some versions of Explorer, let me know and I'll explain it.

And don't forget to breathe deeply, in with the good and out with the bad...

Bumpy ride

Hi Gang,

The new version is online, but you still will not be able to post (in theory) for a while, until the main bug testing is finished, that will be tomorrow morning here in UTC+1, Italy.

There will certainly be lots of little things to fix, so send me a mo'mail or email [ howard at motime.com ] listing the problems that you encountered.

I'm sure there are things about the new layout that you will not like, or will disorient you, at the start. I'm on your side about that, but that was the price to pay to getting the software upgraded and getting us on the path to better features and easier blogging.

Sorry for the inevitable shock, but the most important thing is that we are all still here and kicking. (And screaming?)

scheduled down time, advisory, spumante

Upgrade scheduled for today!

Or tomorrow (just to leave wiggle room for a traditional delay)!

Mo'time may be down for a few hours while they work under the hood (bonnet).
