Comment spam :(

I have been noticing an increased in the hated and dreaded comment spam, comments that contain links and promotions for everything from v_i-a_g-r_a to spare parts for tractors. I know that this loathsome phenomenon is very disturbing -- therefore we are working on a simple solution to block these nasty worms from polluting Mo'time. I will try to let you guys know when we've got something in place.

Hi, Howard!
Thanks for taking care of this unpleasant situation, especially when it's been happening on a daily basis in a blog for young learners.
Happy Easter!!!

I've got a solution for preventing spamming.

Hi guys just came back from a week away and my comments are full of spam. This was never a problem before, has something changed?

Any news on a possible fix?

Much obliged. Got anything for trolls (i.e., a way to block certain IPs)?

The spam activity is increasing, with hundreds of comments accumulating over a weekend. If the process for deleting comments could have gone faster, that would be a great help.

Hey Knut, i hear you... the problem is one of time and resources at this point. I would suggest the following strategy for the short term:

Set your comments for logged-in people only. I notice that you have a good many unlogged commenters and I know it would pain you to insist that they create an account and be logged in order to comment, but that would solve the problem. (It really only takes 4 minutes and there is no need to create a blog or do anything else.)

To further lighten the burden, you could create another account yourself with a username like beerblog or whatever and an easy to remember password. You can set a message to your readers in Blogs-> Connections-> Access telling them of the login and password that they can use to quickly login to comment, perhaps separating the letters with a space l i k e t h i s so that it is not machine-readable.

This is the best I can do for now. Sorry for the inconvenience.
